about

Big Gay Musical! is an improvised queer Broadway musical extravaganza, inspired by true stories from the lives of our entirely queer cast and crew.  Our debut run at The Hideout Theatre in 2018 saw critical acclaim, incredible support from the community, and raised over $2,000 in donations for local LGBTQIA+ organizations.  We've played to sold-out crowds for Out Of Bounds Comedy Festival (2018), and now we're taking our queer cheer and truth to the road!

Winner of a 2018 B. Iden Payne award for Outstanding Direction

praise from fans

"This show changed my heart forever."

"This was the first improv show I've ever seen, and I not only loved it, I NEEDED it.  Thank you, Big Gay Musical!"

"Wow!! What a fabulous, fun night. I'm embarrassed to say that this is my first experience with improv in Austin, and I loved it! I was also tickled bright queer pink by the OUTsider fundraiser song. Thank you so much for including us among your charities. Y'all are dreamboats!" - Curran Nault, Artistic Director of OUTsider Fest (and official beneficiary of the original 2018 run)

"I bought tickets to every show in August and I CAN'T WAIT!"

"Thank you for helping to bring visibility to our stories, especially the most underrepresented groups, like nonbinary and Ace/Aro folks. The show really inspired me and I related to it a lot. I’ll come support y’all as many times as I can!"

"I’m SO glad I brought my daughter with me.  You were soooo sweet to her last night and the memory of it keeps melting my heart. Our family has an unconventional story, plus she’s newly identifying as pan, and my hope for her as she enters high school is to find her tribe and be happy. Watching her watch your show felt just like when I first took her to Disney World, with her wide-eyed squeals and her clutching my arm when she was delighted by something! I’ll never forget the moment we all shared celebrating being ourselves last night! Thank you for the feels, the music, and all that life glitter!!"
